New Harry Potter Pics (Be Advised: This Is Spoiler-licious)!

We have to admit that we chortled a bit when we saw the latest Harry Potter photos on Filmshaft.com!

The photos (not official obvz) below contain major spoilers and will completely ruin your day if you’ve not read the books. So if you’re one of the (very) few people left who haven’t read the final Potter book, we advise you to close your eyes and scroll for a few beats… NOW!

For those of you with your eyes still open and in the know, the images below feature Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and Ginny Weasley (Bonnie Wright) and the scene corresponds to the epilogue in the final book. We won’t say any more than that.

Oh and we were laughing at the “aged” Daniel and Bonnie. Sorry guys – but what have they dressed you up/made you up like? From the look on Bonnie’s face – she knows, and it’s not good. It’s middle aged. Bah!

Watch The Last Airbender Trailer Here!

M. Night Shymalan’s recent run of films haven’t exactly set the world alight, but we rather hope that The Last Airbender is going to buck that trend.

The Last Airbender is about a young boy called Aang (Noah Ringer) who is an Avatar. An Avatar is the physical embodiment of the world, with the ability to control all four earthly elements, but Aang is reluctant to embrace his heritage.

However he must soon learn to accept his responsibilities when his nemesis, Fire Lord Ozai, threatens to wage his world war ever closer to Aang’s home.

The Last Airbender also stars Jackson Rathbone (Twilight series), Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) Cliff Curtis (Die Hard 4.0) and new face, Nicola Peltz.

We’ve been keeping a beady GG shaped eye on the film’s development and we think the final trailer released by Paramount is its best yet.

Visually it looks bloody a-mazing; the incredibly dynamic combat scenes intersected with the insanely clever CGI used the four earthly elements being our particular high-light. The script sounds pretty good and the plot is one that should be hard to screw up.

It’s all in your hands M. Night Shymalan; we’d ♥ to sing your film making praises again.

Dominic Cooper To Play Howard Stark In Captain America FIlm?

We’re rather pleased about the latest snippet of news doing the rounds about the forth coming Captain America film.

Salon reports that the rather delicious Dominic Cooper has been confirmed for the role of Iron Man’s father, Howard Stark.

Dominic will be playing a younger version of the character portrayed by John Slattery (Mad Men, SATC) in Iron Man 2.

Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) explained in Iron Man 2 that he was an old acquaintance of Howard Stark. Did you notice that when Fury handed over Howard's treasure chest to Tony Stark in IM2, an early prototype of Captain America's shield was inside?

Jon Favreau (Iron Man 2) suggested Howard Stark was likely involved with the Super Soldier program that gave birth to Captain America during World War II.

Captain America: The First Avenger will be released in July 2011 and is being directed by Joe Johnston (Jumanji, Jurassic Park III).

Already confirmed to star in the Marvel film are, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Sebastian Stan and now it also seems Dominic Cooper. It's looking pretty good, no?

Exclusive Eclipse Scene Will Be Premiered At MTV Awards Show

Good news for Twilight fans! An exclusive viewing of scene from the forth coming Eclipse film is to be shown at the MTV Awards show on 7th June!

It’s been confirmed that the clip will be presented by Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.

Twilight fans should also watch out for the lovely Anna Kendrick who will be presenting an award and Chaske Spencer (Sam Uley) who’ll be reporting from the red carpet.

Eclipse, the third instalment of the Twilight saga, will go on general release in the UK on 9th July. We’re going to say it again – why is the UK release date so ruddy late? Rubbish!

Fox Announces Big Budget Sci-Fi Show, Terra Nova, Produced By Spielberg

It’s been a bit doom and gloom of recent on the sci-fi front. We’ve seen the axe drop on several of our favourite shows and final ending of key others (Ashes to Ashes, Lost *sigh*).

But Fox has brought us a ray of hope – it has commissioned new big-budget dinosaur, time travel epic, Terra Nova, produced by old hand, Steven Spielberg.

All we’ve managed to glean so far is that the series is based on a family who jump back to prehistoric (Ooo, big budget, flashy dinosaur action!) times to help save a future earth that has run out of resources.

Fox is keeping details and pictures under wraps but they’ll start releasing teasers soon enough, mark our words. For now, feast your eyes on the promo poster (right).

Alex Kingston To Return For Doctor Who Finale

Oh goody! Alex Kingston will be reprising her role as River Song for the finale of Doctor Who!

The Beeb have announced that the two-part story will be penned by series mastermind, Steven Moffat.

The episodes will air on June 19th and June 26th on BBC One, titled “The Pandorica Opens” and “The Big Bang” respectively.

In case you’ve banged your head and forgotten, River Song is an archaeologist who claims to be married to the Doctor. The Doctor Who Confidential refers to her as the “companion-to-come”. Secretly, we rather liked the idea of her being the next Doctor..

According to reports, the finale episode will feature The Daleks (retro, silver and gold or all colours of the rainbow – who knows), The Cybermen and The Sontarans.

Ooo – we can’t wait! We’ve very much enjoyed this series; the production, the cast and the story lines, but what about you? Let us know: Doctor Snooze or Doctor Wahoo?

Sky1 To Simulcast Lost Series Finale

The Geeky Girls will have alarms set for 4.45am next Monday as Sky1 has announced it will be airing the epic two-hour Lost finale at 5am in simulcast with the US transmission.

The double-length episode, aptly titled The End, will FINALLY give us closure on the many mysteries that show bosses Team Darlton have teased us with since the series first hit screens in 2004.

Sky1's director of programmes Stuart Murphy said: "We are proud of the fact that at Sky1 HD we have a long tradition of running all of our US shows as close as possible to their US transmission date.

"With something as hotly anticipated as the Lost finale, it makes sense to show it at exactly the same time as millions across America will see it."

We can't wait.

More Woe For Heroes

As if being axed wasn’t enough stress and angst for the cast and crew of Heroes, it now turns out the show’s creator, Tim Kring, and NBC are being sued over copyright infringement.

According to Total Sci-Fi Online, Jason Barnes is seeking $60 million, claiming that the “carnival of lost souls and outcasts” that appeared in the final series of Heroes, is almost identical to the one that appears in his comic series, Jazan Wild’s Carnvial of Souls.

“The main character in both stories leads a carnival of lost souls and outcasts” Jason states. “The dark character seeks to make his carnival more powerful by recruiting new members with special abilities. Even the dialogue is similar”.

Scandalous, but this isn’t the first time Heroes has come under fire amongst claims of copyright. In 2007 a judge dismissed a lawsuit which claimed that Isaac Mendez (the delicious artist whose ability was painting the future) was stolen from the body of work by artists Amnau Karam Eele and Clifton Mallery.

Megan Fox announces it was her decision to leave Transformers

We're sure there's lots of men out there who are going to be whole heartedly dissapointed with the news that Megan Fox will not be taking part in the next Transformers movie.

No official reason was given as to why she has made this decision, however we know that it was her decision to go.

According to Digital Spy, the news led to speculation that the 24-year old has been dropped by bosses as a result of her claim that the movies are 'not about acting' and disagreements with director Michael Bay.

Transformers 3 is due to be released in July 2011 and we have a sneaking suspicion that there won't be as many men attending this time round... 'for the action'.

Bruce Willis Joins Looper Cast

Bruce Willis has been cast in Rian Johnson’s (Brick/The Brothers Bloom) sci-fi movie “Looper”, according to Deadline Hollywood.

Starring alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the two will play the same character in a dark tale about time travel and murder.

The film centers around a group of killers (called Loopers) who work for a crime syndicate set in the future.

Their bosses send their marked targets back in time to the Loopers, who in turn have to shoot and dispose of the bodies and no one is any the wiser. Sounds like the perfect crime, but complications soon arise.

Bruce Willis? Joseph Gordon-Levitt? Time-travel? Violence? We like. We like a lot.

Lost Bosses Promise Emotional Finale

Looks like we'll need to have a box of tissues at the ready for next week's Lost finale, and not for any sordid reason. Show bosses Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have promised that the episode is a blub-fest, saying: "If you do not cry, we have failed you miserably. I think we'll leave it at that."

We'll see, Team Darlton, we'll see. At least two of the three GGs are not easy weepers, though admittedly the other one (the one writing this story, in fact) is an emotional wreck and will doubtless be blubbing from the beginning.

The pair also had a laugh attempting to estimate the percentage of fans who'll be happy with the show's ending. "I think that 80% of the people will be 100% satisfied," Lindelof said. "20% of the people will be 60% satisfied."

Cuse added: "I actually think there's going to be 10% of the people that are going to be 90% satisfied and about 70% of the people that will be 85% satisfied. And of course there's always that 10, 15% of people that will be 15 or 10% satisfied. I mean, those are approximations. Those aren't precise statistics."

Is anyone else disappointed, miffed even, that they're not aiming for 100%?

In other Lost news, Team Darlton have ruled out the option of making a follow-up movie. Boo.

FlashForward To End Unexplained

Following the sad news that two (TWO!) of our favourite shows have been cancelled, we're even more sad to hear that the upcoming finale of FlashForward will leave several questions unanswered.

Sonya Walger, who plays Olivia, told E! Online: "There's some closure to it, but there's an awful lot left unexplained."

Sonya did promise that fans will enjoy the last episode, saying: "It was so satisfying to read the finale because there are still glitches in the system. There are anomalies - it's like a beautiful map puzzle that just rounds itself out.

"There's another flash-forward brewing, but it remains to be seen if it happens or not. The finale is just brilliantly written. It's so satisfying to watch how everybody ends up - or doesn't - in the positions that they saw themselves in the pilot.

"Watching these chess pieces move into position so that everyone is where they saw themselves being is ingenious. And by the end of the penultimate episode, they've pushed everyone as far away from their final positions as they could possibly be. It's a brilliant device."

In case you've been under a rock over the weekend, the other show to get the axe is Heroes. We were in the pub paying a boozy tribute to the cheerleader, hence the lack of reporting on our part. Sorry about that. Anyway - here's hoping that both shows get the ending they deserve (hic!).

Sneak Peek: The Joss Whedon Episode Of Glee!!!

Ok, so we're trying something a bit different this week at Geeky Girls HQ. Glee isn't the kind of show we'd usually blog about, due to it being big on the jazz hands, but we're closet fans.

Ok - we're not really in the closet about our fandom - WE LOVE GLEE!!!

And now it turns out it's ok to love Glee because Joss Whedon, God of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and all things fab-u-lous, is a massive Gleek too. Yeah!

For those of you who, like us, enjoy a bit of quality television regardless of genre prejudice, check out this preview clip of the next episode Dream On directed by The Whedon himself and featuring none other than Neil Patrick Harris of Dr. Horrible fame.

The episode hits UK screens on E4 / HD on Mon 24 May at 8pm.

Big cast for Outcasts

The Beeb have invested quite a bit of budget to land big names for their new supernatural drama, Outcasts.

Spooks' Hermione Norris, Battlestar Galactica's Jamie Bamber, Ashes To Ashes' Daniel Mays and Ugly Betty's Eric Mabius have all signed up to appear in the series which follows a group of people trying to build a life on a newly discovered planet, Carpathia.

But as the outcasts lose contact with the Earth, they realise a mysterious threat is lurking on their new home.

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning, said: "Outcasts is a richly intelligent, character-led drama full of big ideas about what it is to be human told through thrilling and surprising stories that could only appear in this show. Ben Richards has created a remarkable world peopled with compelling characters, and it is hugely exciting that this amazing cast is going to bring it to life."

The end for Heroes?

Rumour has it that NBC had decided to cancel Heroes. Boo.

New York Magazine reports that network executives have decided against ordering a final 13-episode season of the show in favour of allocating budget to several new shows that are set to debut this season.

The good news, however, is that a feature-length episode could be made to provide a satisfying ending for the franchise.

Greg Grunberg, who plays Matt Parkman, admitted on Twitter that the future of the show is uncertain, saying: "Haven't heard anything official re: Heroes for next season. Hope it gets picked up."

NBC have so far declined to comment. Fingers at GG HQ are well and truly crossed.

Lost star Pellegrino claims questions will be answered

Well hallelujah and praise be. It seems our prayers might just have been answered.

Lost actor Mark Pellegrino has claimed that the show's upcoming finale will give us closure on at least some of those burning questions we've had since the very beginning of the series.

Mark, who plays the island's enigmatic caretaker Jacob, told TV Guide: "There will be some ends tied, but I can't guarantee that for everyone," he said. "People have been debating the meaning of the show and the various subplots for years and I wonder if all the questions are going to be answered. That's a tall order, but I think many people will be satisfied."

Hmm… we're guessing we're never going to find out what happened to that damn polar bear.

Friday's episode, titled Across The Sea, puts the Losties on the backburner in favour of exploring the island's past - including the relationship between Jacob and The Man In Black.

But Mark admitted that the episode shows a darker side to Jacob, who we've always assumed to be (to quote Jason Stackhouse) on the side of the light.

"On a certain level, the line between good and evil has an indistinctive blurring," he said. "I think there's a lot of crossover in the show. That doesn't necessarily mean that I'm not good, though. Things will become clearer in the next episode, definitely. I think you'll make up your mind one way or the other for sure, but it's not going to be clean and pristine. You'll definitely come down on one side or the other."

Well that's as clear as mud.

Feast your fangs on True Blood Minisode number three!

HBO are continuing to tease True Blood season three with these delicious A Drop Of True Blood minisodes. The latest, which takes place right before the season two finale, sees Sookie, Tara and Lafayette have an unusual row over Miss Stackhouse's vampire boyfriend, Bill.

All this is rich coming from Tara as we hear she's set to get herself a vampire sugar daddy of her own in the shape of bad-to-the-bone Franklin Mott (James Frain), a character that show creator Alan Ball has described as "not just crazy, but evil".

Rutina Wesley, who plays Bon Temps' feisty barmaid, told OnTheRedCarpet.com: "I have a new love interest, supposedly, and some of it’s by choice, some of it’s not. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m having a great time working with James Frain. He’s a wonderful, wonderful actor. It’s going to be more ups and downs like last season. Very chaotic. Now we’ve got wolves and other things coming into play."

Doctor Who spoilers: episode 7 'Amy's Choice'

Profuse apologies for our lack of Doctor Who spoiler pics of late, but we're happy to say we've got our mitts on these fab images from the next episode, Amy's Choice.

Five years after her last voyage through time and space in the Tardis, the Doctor visits Amy to find her heavily pregnant on the eve of the birth of her first child. But, thanks to the enigmatic Dream Lord, all is not as it seems and Amy must make a heartbreaking choice.

Colin Farrell to join Fright Night re-make

Colin Farrell is set to play 'Jerry' in the re-make of the 1985 comedy/horror vampire movie Fright Night. The story is centred around a teenager who discovers vampires are living next door, though no-one believes him. Farrell features as the neighbourly vampire next door.

Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Terminator Salvation) is set to play the teen lead, and Toni Colette (you're terrible Muriel!) will be playing his mother.

Release date TBC, but by the looks of this cast and the premise of the film, we're thinking this will be a big hit within the geek world.

Right, we're off to buy the original.

Kick-Ass Writer To Pen X-Men: First Class

Kiss-Ass screenwriter Jane Goldman is set to pen the latest X-Men movie, X-Men: First Class according to hubby Jonathan Ross.

Wossy revealed that Goldman is "away writing X Men 4" on his Twitter page. But after answering some simple queries such as when it will be released ("next summer"), he later tweeted: "I am afraid I better not answer any more queries re X-Men: First Class for fear of spoilers and also possible divorce. Thank you."

The film will be a prequel in the X-Men timeline, and will concentrate on the complicated relationship between Charles Xavier and Erik 'Magneto' Lehnsherr (played by Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen in previous films) and the founding of Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters.

The move marks a Kick-Ass reunion of sorts as director Matthew Vaughn is also signed up for the Marvel adaptation. The pair also previously collaborated on 2007 fantasy Stardust so it looks like this comic book movie is in good hands.

Vote For Your Favourite Man And Woman Of The Month

The month's just whizz by don't they? Well, another month, another Geeky Girl poll. Feast your eyes over our male and female treats and cast some votes people.

Twilight Shock: new cast for Breaking Dawn?

There are plenty of gasps and raised eyebrows at Geeky Girl HQ this morning as we hear that two of our twilight faces could be axed from the franchise.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Kellan Lutz (Emmet Cullen) and Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen) could lose their roles because of a pay dispute with studio Summit Entertainment. Initial agreements were for three movies, and Summit has been forced to renegotiate contracts following plans to adapt Breaking Dawn into two parts.

"We may have a situation where one of them is thrown out on the street to make a point," a source said. Summit previously replaced Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria) with Bryce Dallas Howard for Eclipse when Lefevre's agents made fresh salary and scheduling demands.

"This thing is gonna be two movies," another insider added. "With or without the cast intact."

The good news is that Peter Facinelli (Carlisle Cullen) and Billy Burke (Charlie Swan) are already on board with Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen), Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black) said to be close to signing.

For our part, we think it would be a huge shame to see these parts recast for the final movie. We love Kellan and Ashley and reckon Summit owes it to the fans to keep the Cullen clan intact.

The Beatles return... as zombies

Iconic British band The Beatles are set to appear in upcoming horror flick, Paul Is Undead: The British Zombie Invasion.

The adaptation of Alan Goldsher's book sees a zombie John Lennon kill his bandmate Paul McCartney and the rest of the group who all come back as the undead.

The fab four go on to kill and eat the brains of fans while trying to evade their nemesis, zombie killer Mick Jagger.

Stacey Sher, of production company Double Feature, said: "I am a huge Beatles fan like the rest of the world and Alan's mash-up, which really showcases his love of music history and his appreciation of the zombie world, is a fun, funny read.

"How can you not love a book where Jesus agrees with zombie John Lennon, that the Beatles are in fact bigger than him?"

The lady has a point.

The project is the latest in a string of zombie productions in the pipeline which see classic novels being reinterpreted as flesh-eating monster movies. In fact, V For Vendetta and Star Wars actress Natalie Portman is working on something similar - a zombie adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.

Nope, we're not kidding.

True Blood Goodness Galore: one Werewolf promo and two amazing minisodes

Calling all fangbangers! True Blood bosses have released this beaut of a promo video for season 3, which gives us a glimpse at the werewolves which will feature next season. Ok - it's not much, but it's enough to get us excited about the prospect of Alcide et al finally arriving on screen.

And, as if that weren't enough True Blood goodness to last at least five minutes, check out the True Blood minisodes that have been doing the rounds on t'interweb.

The first gives us a hilarious glimpse into run-of-the-mill night at Fangtasia as Eric and Pam interview for new dancers.

The second clip sees Jessica on the hunt, hungry for a man… and maybe more. But her god-fearing suitor gets more than he bargained for.

The next A Drop Of True Blood minisode will feature Sookie, Tara and Lafayette and is expected to leak soon. Watch this space, vamp fans.

Buffy comic pokes fun at Twilight

As Joss Whedon writes the final five issues of Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic book, season 8, part 1 of 5 will offer a tongue in cheek front cover.

Drawn by Buffy artist Georges Jeanty, you will note that it has a remarkable resemblance to the official Twilight: New Moon poster.

Although we must admit to being Twi-hards, our first and one true love is always going to be Buffy, so we feel no remorse at giggling along with the rest of the geek community.

On sale in September 2010.

NEW Inception Trailer Relased!

Found by fans via the online viral game, Mind Crime, the new, third (and best!) Inception trailer has been released!

"We create the world of the dream. You bring the subject into that dream and they fill it with their secrets" says Cobb, played by Leo DiCaprio.

"And then you break in and steal them?" asks Adriadne played by Ellen Page.

"Well it's not strictly speaking legal. It's called Inception." replies Cobb.

Unlike the teaser trailers previewed before, Nolan's giving us a bit extra this time round and although we're a little surprised, we don't care. A-woo-hoo! We have a new trailer with premise, plot, motive and action. We LOVE.

Now we just need the Doctor to turn up in his Tardis and take us to July 16th.

New True Blood Posters 6 And 7!

Aha! We have found some new True Blood season 3 posters for you lot to feast your eyes on!

HBO have released a series of promo posters, whetting our appetites for more supernatural jaunts and high-jinx with Sookie Stackhouse and friends. Bring. It. On. We’re um, whetted.

Poster 6 is set in a zoo or animal sanctuary and asks the public to refrain from feeding the shape shifters. Hehe! We like the idea of lots of Shape Shifters spending their days and nights in zoos. It makes us think about zoos in an entirely different light.. We’d also like to point out we’d be happy for Sam Merlot to er, phase in front of us.

Poster 7 must be dedicated to the fang-bangers amongst us. It features a “vamp stamp” plaster, complete with little blood spots. We think it's cute - does that make us weird? That’s a rhetorical question by the way.

So, what do you think? Are you enjoying HBO’s True Blood viral campaign? Do you want your very own vamp stamp? Let us know!

And we’re still waiting on those poster freebies HBO execs – boohoo!

Scarlett Johansson; Your Woman Of The Month

Just piping poor Karen Gillan to the post, Scarlett Johansson has nabbed April’s title of Woman of the Month.

With more curves than the Monte Carlo circuit (so we hear), a set of bee stung lips Angie herself laments and sickeningly gorgeous blond or brunette, Scarlett is more than deserving of your prized votes.

Scarlett first rose to prominence in the critically acclaimed film, The Horse Whisper (1998), in the role of Grace MacLean and won The Hollywood Reporter Young Star Award for her efforts. The success from The Horse Whisper rocketed Scarlett’s profile sky high and the movie scripts started to pour in.

As she entered her mid-teens, Scarlett searched for more mature roles and won rave reviews for her portrayal of Rebecca in the frigging excellent Ghost World, alongside Thora Birch. Scarlett continued to pick her roles well and in 2003 she was nominated for two Golden Globes, one for The girl with a pearl earring and the other for Lost In Translation.

Since then, Scarlett has gone from strength to strength, with parts in The Prestige, The Black Dahlia and Match Point, making her one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood.

Currently Miss Johansson can be seen strutting her stuff as Natalia Romanova aka Black Widow in the new Iron Man 2 film. Deadly, super fast and with thighs that could crush an opponent’s wind pipe, Scarlett more than kicks ass.

You clearly thought so too!

Did you know?

Shortly after Lost in Translation (2003) was released, Scarlett said she had a connection to older men and couldn't see herself dating anyone under 30. True to her word, she had a relationship with actor Benicio Del Toro, who is 17 years her senior!

Director Sofia Coppola directed both Scarlett and her ex boyfriend Josh Hartnett, but not in the same movie. Scarlett was in Coppola's Lost in Translation (2003) and Hartnett starred in The Virgin Suicides (1999)

She's a massive Woody Allen fan.

Scarlett was originally offered the role of Evey in V for Vendetta and the role of Lois Lane in Superman Returns (she would have been better than that wet lettuce, Bosworth).

She's a democrat and avidly supports Barack Obama.

She's a married woman! She married fiancé Ryan Reynolds in a quiet ceremony in Canada on September 27th, 2008.

Scarlett recorded an album comprised entirely of Tom Waits covers, titled "Anywhere I Lay My Head". The album was released on May 2008 but it made very little impact.

Her only vice is cheese. We hear you!

Johnny Depp; Your Man Of The Month

We don’t know how to put this delicately, so we’ll be blunt: Johnny Depp is really effing fit. We mean seriously fit. So fit he’s out of this stratosphere fit.  Those magnetic eyes, hypnotic gaze and his perfectly sculptured cheek bones, carved by the all mighty architect we call God.

Basically, Johnny Depp is so fit you lot saw right to vote him numero uno on the GG poll.  Thank YOU!

Kicking off his early acting career with 21 Jump Street, Johnny Depp was quickly catapulted into the mucky fame game and soon earned the status of teen idol. Unhappy with this branding and fearing a cluster of type cast roles, Depp set out to try his hand at more challenging, off-beat and kooky characters.

It was shortly after this, in 1990, that Depp landed the role of Edward in Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands. Massive critical and main stream success followed and it jump started a plethora of quirky and rich acting roles for Depp including Ed Wood, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas and Sleepy Hollow.

Notice that 3 of the films listed in the paragraph above are also Tim Burton films? Good friends, Depp and Burton have collaborated on seven films in total, with the last being Alice In Wonderland. Producer Scott Rudin once said of the partnership, "Basically Johnny Depp is playing Tim Burton in all his movies”.

Burton aside, Depp has starred in a wide variety of films, from the gun tooting, western-esque, Once Upon A Time In Mexico, to the snuff snorting high jinx in Blow to wielding a butchers cleaver with deadly accuracy in Sweeny Todd, Johnny never fails to disappoint.  But it’s been his turn as rakish rogue pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow which really sealed Johnny’s mass appeal.

Like a fine wine, Depp’s just getting better with age - both aesthetically and theatrically - and we’re looking forward to savouring every single cinematic moment.

Did you know?

In 2007, Depp’s daughter, Lilly Rose Melody, contracted E. coli, an infection that began to cause her kidneys to shut down and resulted in an extended hospital stay. Happily Lilly recovered and to thank Great Ormond Street Depp visited the hospital in November 2007 dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow and spent 4 hours reading stories to the children. He later donated £1 million to the hospital. Can you say “Awwww”?

Depp has 13 tats (that we know of – we wish we could count ‘em in the flesh, sigh) adorning his sexual self. His best known tattoo is “Wino Forever” after his brief liaison with Amy Winehouse. Nah, we’re just yanking your chain! Previously inked in as “Winona Forever” Depp later had this altered after the he and Winona Ryder broke up, hence the Wino.

There’s a reason Depp sometimes looks like he’s a roadie for Motorhead, he’s a dirty rock grunger – our favourite! Yay! He’s recorded a solo album, played slide guitar on the Oasis song "Fade In-Out" (from Be Here Now, 1997) and played on "Fade Away (Warchild Version)" (b-side of the "Don't Go Away" single).

And just when we thought we couldn’t lust him any more..

Batman 3 Date Set for 2012

Rejoice Batman fans, Warner Bros have confirmed that the third Batman film will debut in cinemas and IMAX theatres from July 20, 2012. Eeeee!

As Nolan is still tied up in post-production for Inception (double Eeeee!), little else has been leaked about the film but it is thought that Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman will reprise their respective roles.

This will be Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film. How he will top Batman Begins and The Dark Knight is almost mind boggling but we’re supremely confident Nolan will pull it out of the bag again.

Comic Book Virgins No More

Now what we know about comics could be fitted on to the head of a very, very small pin, so when we heard about the Geek Girl Panel Dinner at the Sci-fi London Film Festival we jumped at the chance to go and learn more (and maybe bag some freebies, which we did – thanks guys!)

The Geek Girl Panel dinner was chaired by Judith Lewis (a founder of the Geek Girl Dinners and a veteran of anime conventions) and featured three self styled Geek Girl speakers, Karen Rubins, Emma Vieceli and Kate Brown, who all work in the comic book industry and were very lovely.

Karen Rubins was the resident artist at the V&A Museum and recently penned a set of playing cards in comic book style, tying in with tarot themes (they were awesome, fyi). She found early acclaim for her self-published graphic novel The Dark and is currently attempting to finish a 120 page graphic novel for the next big comic Expo.

Emma Vieceli is a very accomplished comic book illustrator and draws online Manga story, Dragon Heir. Excitingly, Emma has also recently worked for the mighty Marvel in it's new series, Girl Comics (no, we’re not feeling the brand name either – but Emma’s work is truly fantastic!).

Kate Brown illustrated the Manga Shakespeare adaptation A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She sketches with pencil and uses Photoshop to colour in over her etchings. She predominently works in self-publishing (freelance) and illustrates for DFC comics. She has recently completed illustrating for Spider Moon (available to buy now kids!).

As comic book newbs, we were thankfully given an overview of the history of comics and the situation now – especially from a UK market perspective. Up for discussion was the recent influx of female graphic artists into the comic book industry and if Manga has been the main contributing reason.

We had no idea there were so many different comic book styles and so many different genres (alternative/esoteric, Manga, science fiction, fantasy, action/adventure, horror, humour, romance, childrens, and adult). We loved it - we’re throwing ourselves into comic book land with abandon – any suggestions to get us going would be greatly appreciated!

GG recommend the Sci-fi London festival to anyone interested in sci-fi - it is NOT just a bunch of geeks dressed up in Star Wars gear ...Okay, okay so there were a couple of Storm Troopers running about outside – it’s a sci-fi festival, duh!

The festival featured film premiers, workshops, panels and lots of other events and was more about getting people involved and breaking down the barriers to enter the sci-fi genre with an open mind. But we suppose we’re rather preaching to the choir here; you're already following our blog!

We urge you to go next year!

Star Wars Day "May The Fourth Be With You"

Millions of Jedi fans take to the streets today to celebrate the official Star Wars Day. 4th May is dubbed 'Star Wars Day' mainly due to the famous pun 'may the fourth be with you'.

Obsessed fans all over the world use this day as an excuse to hold in-promptu lightsaber fights and spend the day talking like Yoda. Love it we do!

A spokesperson from Lucas films states "It's nice that this particular date seems to observe and celebrate the power of the Force, and we're thrilled that Star Wars fans continue to find new ways to connect with a galaxy far, far away".

So grab your lightsaber guys and gals and lets join the fun!

Ooo! First Picture Still From Thor!

The first shot from Thor (UK release date 20 May 2011) has been revealed.

Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) is seen here in all his Thor glory.

Unfortunately not a full body shot here, but we get the idea and we like it! A pretty good likening to the comic book character we feel.
For those who don't know a great deal about the mighty God of Thunder, here's a quick synopsis: Thor is an arrogant warrior who gets sent to Earth to live among humans as punishment for his reckless actions. While on earth he learns how to be a true hero.

Let's hope some more piccy's like this are revealed soon. We'd like to catch a glimpse of Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and Odin (Anthony Hopkins).

For those of you who haven't seen Iron Man 2 yet, we urge you to stay to the very end (after credits roll) to catch a small taster glimpse of Thor...
