Jamie Bell The Next Spider-Man?

Well this made us look twice. According to Bleeding Cool, Jamie Bell has been cast as the next Spider-Man for Sony's younger and grittier 3D remake.

Director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) had spent the last few months meeting actors for the as of yet untitled Spider-Man reboot and had narrowed down his wish list to: Jamie Bell, Alden Ehrenreich, Frank Dillane, Josh Hutcherson and Andrew Garfield.

However Bleeding Cool claims that Jamie Bell has definitely been cast as the next Spider-Man. There's been no confirmation as yet from Sony, but we’ll update you as soon as we know.

The new Spider-Man movie will follow a much younger Peter Parker. It’s speculated that the new film will be more realistic and grittier than the previous films and will follow the character as he is portrayed in the Ultimate Spider-Man comic book series (a rebooted Spider-Man mythology with a modern twist).

The original Spider-Man 4 had been due for release in 2011, but director Sam Raimi was unhappy with the script. Script issues and other creative differences meant that film was ditched, along with its stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.

We rather like the idea of Jamie Bell taking on the role of Spider-Man. He’s clearly an excellent actor (he won a Bafta for Billy Elliott yanno) and has a strong physicality that will translate well to the role.

The Jonas Bros For Captain America? Noooooo!

Excuse us while we rant.

The latest geek gossip doing the rounds on the interweb suggests that Disney puppets the Jonas Brothers (well, two of 'em) could be in the running to star in the latest Marvel comic book adaptation, Captain America.

According to Hollywire, Joe (the pouty one) and Kevin (the tall one) Jonas have already read lines and are being considered for parts - including the lead.

Pur-lease!

Apparently Kevin was more natural, but more auditions need to take place before decisions are made.

My Best Friends' Girl actor Dane Cook also revealed he's up for the part via Twitter, while John Krasinski (The Office), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) and Mike Vogel (Cloverfield) are believed to be the remaining candidates for the role after Michael Cassidy and Scott Porter admitted that they were out of the running last week.

Casting the part badly could be disastrous for comic book fans everywhere, not to mention Disney who recently acquired the rights to the Marvel properties. What next? Miley Cyrus as Wonder Woman? Zac Effron as Spider-Man? Actually, that isn't such a bad idea.

Z-Fron (no?) has revealed that he'd love to don the red and blue lycra and take over from Tobey Maguire. The actor told MTV: "It would be a dream come true."

He continued: "I've got to be honest I don't know if it's a reality. I can't really say. I've been a fan of Spider-Man since I remember being six-years-old and tearing up in that comic book. I could never get enough. I think it would be an honour. I would tear it up."

'Course you would Zac.

R-Pattz For Spider-Man 4?

Rumour has it that Twilight star Robert Pattinson is in line to replace Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man.

The news comes after Tobey, who starred as Peter Parker in the first three films in the franchise, announced his decision to quit the role earlier this week. Director Sam Raimi and co-star Kirsten Dunst have also been dropped from the fourth film.

According to reports, Rob is favourite to take the lead role, but Juno actor Michael Cera, Jake Gyllenhaal and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are also apparently in the frame to play the webslinger in the movie which is due for release in 2012
.

Studio Sony have denied the rumors, telling ET Online: "Our first step is to find a director".

Hmm... GG♥SF playing Spidey might just be too much sci fi for R-Pattz. He'll always be Edward Cullen to us.
