Matt Smith Stopped at Heathrow For Carrying Sonic Screwdriver

Tehe, this made us titter! Whilst on his way to Belfast, new Doctor Who, Matt Smith, was stopped by officials at Heathrow airport when they noticed a strange looking device in his luggage.

Checking his bags through security, X-ray technicians saw what appeared to be a rather futuristic looking “weapon” lodged in his luggage.

According to reports, Matt was extremely polite (you would be too if faced with a possible body cavity search) when questioned and explained the screwdriver was a prop to the assembled, bemused staff.

With staff clearly not au fait with the new time lord, Matt had to produce show promo material to prove who he was! Thankfully logic prevailed and Matt was allowed to go on his merry way.

Matt told the Radio Times he keeps his beloved sonic screwdriver with him at all times for extra practice. He said, ''I've broken four of them ... I like to have it about my person at all times, just twirling it around and flicking it. It's all part of the magic, isn't it?”.

We’ll help you train any day, Doctor.

Matt also has the glorious honour of being featured in our monthly Man of the Month poll! So if he and his natty bow tie rocked your world with his debut in Saturday’s Doctor Who, we urge you to vote!

True Blood To Become Comic Book

Top TV show True Blood has been given the ultimate geek accolade. The series starring Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer is set to be turned into a comic book series.

The graphic novels will feature the same characters as the TV show, but will follow different storylines.

Creator Alan Ball said: "I'm really looking forward to exploring this new format. Comics have no limitations, things that we could never do on the show because of time and budgetary constraints we can do in a comic.

"The writers of the show and I are closely involved in the creative aspects of the comic, plotting art stories, characters - they exist in the same world but it's a completely different story than what you will see on TV."

We can't wait to take a gander.

Is This The Tackiest Twilight Merchandise Ever?

It might not be the coolest admission, but the Geeky Girls love a good bit of tie-in merchandise. We're still longing after a UC Sunnydale hoodie and wishing we'd purchased a WWBD? (What Would Buffy Do?) bracelet, we think actually making Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans was a genius idea, and one of us is currently considering purchasing a replica pendant just like the one worn by a certain Nordic True Blood vamp. It might make us losers, but we're happy to wear the mantle for the right item.

So it's a disappointment that, so far, the bods at Twilight haven't come up with anything worth wasting our money on. A replica Elizabeth Masen engagement ring? A Cullen-crest bejeweled choker 'in the style of' Alice? An Edward Cullen-inspired 'adult toy'? Pur-lease. But this latest tie-in item to hit the shelves (in the States, at least) takes the proverbial biscuit.

Now you can chow down on sweets - or Sweethearts, to be exact - inspired by Edward and Jacob.

The sugary treats (a bit like Love Hearts, apparently) come in Fire and Ice flavours. The Fire ones apparently have an "intense surge of heat" much like the werewolf they are based on, while the Ice version gives you an "intense wave of cold".

Sounds disgusting to us. And not a little inappropriate.

Walliams Tipped For Twilight Role

Little Britain star David Walliams has reportedly been asked to audition for a role in Breaking Dawn.

According to The Sun, David is being lined up to play a vampire - but it is not known whether his character will be on the side of the Cullens, or the Volturi.

A source told the newspaper: "[Producers] thought him suitable when they saw him play the evil charmer in the drama Capturing Mary."

Our money's on him playing eccentric British vamp Alistair. We reckon he'd bring just the right amount of comedy and creepiness to the role.

April Fools' That Made Us Chuckle

Every April Fools' Day, the British media like to let their hair down and fabricate a story just for laughs (The Guardian's was a particular favourite over our first cuppa of the morning).

The world of sci fi happily joined in the merriment today with a few pranks. Here are our favourites so far:

Sci Fi Pulse: DC, Marvel And The Adult Entertainment Market
Sci Fi Pulse put together a tall tale about DC Comics' plan to license their characters to prophylactics and adult toys. "Green Lanterns wield the most powerful weapon in the universe.  All you have to do is add 'and any man can with this new ribbed condom' and you have the condom every high school and college guy will buy," said an anonymous source at DC Comics.

Genius!

FireFox News: Casting Call Sheet Leaked for Torchwood America
FireFox's claim that the casting call sheet for Torchwood America had been leaked almost had us fooled until we read the following quote from series creator Russell T. Davies: "The heart of the original programme was Gwen Cooper, so we're going to build on that in the new series.  We're going to introduce Gwen's American cousin Jen, a feisty blonde in her early twenties.  She will kick arse and take names and still provide that human touch to a jaded world.  In her free time, she works with disadvantaged children and feeds the hungry. People are just going to love her." Not convinced it's a joke? How about the following: "We do promise at least one gay kiss per series, which should make everyone happy."

If this turns out to be real, we'll eat our sonic screwdrivers.

Series & TV: Lost Series Finale Leaked
Having claimed to have seen the final ever episode of Lost, Series & TV reported this morning that the show ends with Desmond pushing the button, Jack and Locke becoming BFFs, Sawyer and Kate smooching and Walt being eaten by a polar bear. Aww... if only they hadn't owned up to it so quickly.

To be fair, it was always pretty unlikely. We're willing to bet that all materials concerning the Lost season six finale are under lock and key - or perhaps in a secure vault behind a steel door.

Let us know if you've found any more!

New True Blood Posters!

The marketing campaign for season three of True Blood is well and truly underway in the states. Over the past couple of weeks, HBO have been releasing fab new teaser posters as part of a 12-week "advertising series". Of course, this being True Blood the message is simple, effective, bloody and just a little bit naughty.

Here are the two that have come our way so far.
