What did the SNSD girls feel about debuting in America?
SNSD girls talked about their successful debut in America.
Recently, Taeyeon, Sooyoung, Hyoyeon, and Seohyun of SNSD appeared in a feature called Dispatch Interview of JTBC’s News 10 which aired on February 6.
Sooyoung said, “We all have seen our own appearance in American TV shows. We couldn’t believe it although we were watching it with our own eyes. I still can’t believe that it’s really happening.”
Seohyun added, “It felt wonderful, yet some mistakes that we made during the performance caught my eyes. We told ourselves to give better performances in the future.”
As the first Korean artist to be on American broadcast, SNSD appeared in CBS’s The Late Show with David Letterman and ABC’s Live! With Kelly on January 31 and February 1.
After the show, SNSD has become the center of attention in global media, and the popular American newspaper, Wall Street Journal, reported about their potential success.
Right after landing in Korea, Taeyeon said in an interview with JTBC, “It was wonderful to see a number of people recognizing us. When we performed in Paris, there was also a crowd of people at the Eiffel Tower who recognized us, and this whole thing just amazes me.
I think many people recognized because they tried to see us many times on TV, not because we’ve become popular.” Next to her, Sooyoung added, “Now, I have this ambition to win some awards in America. If AMA or EMMY are willing to call us, we…”
Finally, the girls talked about recent paparazzi pictures which embarrassed them by showing them resting very “comfortably” in a plane. They also shared their bold ambition to perform in global market: “If we have a chartered flight, we will be able to rest a bit more comfortable. If we are talking about going global, we need a global jet (chartered plane).”
SNSD looks gorgeous at an autograph session in America
SNSD showed off its beauty in America.
On February 3, some pictures of SNSD holding an autograph session were uploaded on SM Town Facebook account.
SNSD look happy with their American fans in the pictures. They also gather attention with many American fans crowded around them.
On February 2 at 7:00 p.m. (local time), SNSD held their first autograph session in America at a music store located in New York Union Square, and approximately 1,300 fans gathered for the event.
In order to manage American fans who waited in lines from dawn, New York Police Department dispatched some officers. Also, the music store which held the event closed business for the day for safety reasons, confirming SNSD’s popularity in America.
Netizens who saw the pictures comment: “You guys are radiant!!!” “I wonder why you look more beautiful in America.” “I’m so proud of SNSD!!! Fighting!!!”

SNSD’s Taeyeon attracted attention by acting cute for ShiNee’s Minho.In the preview of SBS’s The Salamander Expert and The Shadow Operation that aired on February 3, Taeyeon acts all cute and even says “Pooing pooing” to catch Minhyuk (played by Minho)’s heart.
Taeyeon appears as the granddaughter of the rich president of Samhyun Company. To avoid marrying with her fianc, she tells her grandfather that Minhyuk, who she met by chance, is her boyfriend.
At the first date with Minhyuk, Taeyeon looked so lovely with her pink-colored outfit and her hair up. On that date, Taeyeon acts cute and asks Minhyuk to buy her a hair pin on the street, but Minhyuk looked unconcerned.
However, the last scene where Minhyuk approaching to Taeyeon who is eating tteokbokki(rice cakes in hot sauce) as if he’s going to kiss, made many viewers’ hearts flutter.
America’s biggest electronic store Best Buy closes because of SNSD?
At the first autograph session of SNSD, 1,300 fans have gathered and caused the New York police to appear. Also, the place they held the autograph session had to close due to the crowds.Previously on February 2 at 7:00 p.m(EST), 1,300 fans have appeared for the autograph session of SNSD on America’s biggest electronics store Best Buy and brought chaos.
NYPD showed up on site to protect the fans who have lined since early morning. Not only that, Best Buy also declared that they will be suspending business for that particular day for safety reasons.
A representative of Best Buy states, “There have been many autograph sessions from different stars, but this is the second time closing down for safety reasons after Lady Gaga.”
SNSD spent about one and half an hour shaking hands with the fans, and even comforting those who shed tears when they saw SNSD.
During this promotion, SNSD appeared in many popular channels such as CBS, ABC, and NBC, and also held an event, Meet and Greet and spent some time with America’s influential club owners, radio DJs, broadcasting representatives and promoters. With this autograph session as the last promotion event, SNSD successfully finished all their promotions in America.
SNSD’s Hyoyeon does not seem to be nervous at all appearing in an American talk show
Some pictures of SNSD’ Hyoyeon taken at a green-room is becoming an issue.
On February 2 at 4:00 p.m., SM Entertainment which manages SNSD uploaded some pictures on its official Facebook account with the comment “Hyoyeon @ Waiting room.”
The pictures were taken during a shooting of a popular American talk show, Live! with Kelly in which SNSD appeared on February 1. Hyoyeon keeps a confident look in the pictures, without a hint of nerves, consistently projecting positive energy for the show.
SM uploaded another posting with the comment “Girls’ Generation on ‘Live! with Kelly.’” They included a picture of Sooyoung getting out of a bus this time.
Netizens highly praised SNSD with the comments: “You look very pretty smiling. Hyoyeon unnie is the best!” “Congrats on your debut in America! I guess you guys are good at English too?” “SNSD can do everything… I can’t help falling in love with you.”
