Doctor Who Star's Got One in the Oven

Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) is apparently going to be revealed to be up the duff, Keith Cheggers...preggers! in a future episode of Doctor Who. According to Digital Spy, Amy can be seen sitting on a swing with a baby bump.

The episode is set five years in the future and features her fiance Rory (Arthur Darvill). We're dying to know whether the baby is his or The Doctor's.

A source said "Viewers will have to wait and see how the pregnancy came about, but as always with Doctor Who, things are not always as they appear."

The episode will be screened on the 15 May 2010.

No Alien For New Prequel Films, Says Ridley Scott

Get set for some disappointing news, kids. We won’t be seeing the (terrifying) Xenomorph or face huggers, so prominent in earlier films, in the up-coming Alien prequel movies.

British Director and all round genius, Ridley Scott says audiences won’t be seeing the classic, black armoured cretin because the notion is too “worn out”.

In an interview with the Screen Daily, Scott explains; “The film will be really tough, really nasty. It's the dark side of the moon. We are talking about gods and engineers. Engineers of space. And were the aliens designed as a form of biological warfare? Or biology that would actually go in and clean up a planet? It will take place in the years before that, when they first come across this thing on a planet called Zeta Reticuli”

Scott continued “... the thing about Alien vs Predator is, I know it's commerce, but what a pity... I think, therefore, I have to design - or redesign - earlier versions of what these elements are that led to the thing you finally see in Alien, which is the thing that catapults out of the egg, the face-hugger. I don't want to repeat it. The alien in a sense, as a shape, is worn out."

Scot announced to Collider.com earlier this month that there would be not one but two new Alien films. “It’ll be two. Prequel one and two and then Alien 1”.

Bill Condon Will Direct Breaking Dawn

It’s been confirmed that Bill Condon will direct Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final instalment of the Twilight Saga.

If you remember we brought you news that Bill Condon was in the short list of directors on Summit’s wish list, alongside, Sofia Coppola and Gus Van Sant.

In a statement, Condon said: "I'm very excited to get the chance to bring the climax of this saga to life on-screen. As fans of the series know, this is a one-of-a-kind book - and we're hoping to create an equally unique cinematic experience."

Condon has directed Dream Girls and won an Oscar and Bram Stoker Award for his screen play, Gods and Monsters, in 1999.

New Inception Poster Revealed

We’ve been banging on for ages about Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Inception film and yesterday a new poster was released.

Spotted by fans using the online viral game, Mind Crime, the new poster features the main protagonists in the foreground and in the background we assume one of the Ellen Page dreamscape scenes.

The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Cillian Murphy, Marion Cotillard and GG favourite Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Inception hits UK cinemas and will bend your minds from July 16th.

For those of you salivating for the next trailer, you’ve only got 8 days to go. And just to clarify, we’re salivating with anticipation along with you.

Avatar Smashes More Records

Avatar has smashed many cinema records (including being the fastest movie to ever achieve $1 billion in global ticket sales) but now it can also add smashing DVD records to its mantle.

James Cameron’s 3-D fantasy extravaganza sold over 4 million DVD copies on its opening day, with 1.5 million copies brought on Blu-ray.

Avatar also looks set to take New Moon's crown for being the biggest selling DVD of the year. So far David A Slade’s New Moon picture has sold 6.5 million copies this year.

Selling 4 million DVD copies on its first day, we reckon that Avatar is more than likely going to leave New Moon trailing in its dust.

New Action Packed Eclipse Trailer HERE; "Some One Is Creating An Army"

So, Dr Cullen presumes that someone is sending a legion of crazy, new-born vamps to Forks to wreck havoc across the small town. Oh dear - bad times. Oh and Bella is still dilly dithering between sexy Jake and true love, Edward. Hurry up love, pick one!

We are so excited. We are so excited that we feel a little sick with it.

We think it’s fair to say that the Twilight saga has improved with each film released and Eclipse looks set to continue that trend. It looks bloody marvellous.

From the vampires emerging eerily from the lake, to the confrontational scenes between Bella, Jake and Edward – the trailer is certainly not lacking impact or action.

The fight scenes look beautifully choreographed (as expected from Slade after New Moon’s efforts) and stylishly finished off and the special effects (the wolves in particular) look ridiculously realistic.

The trailer was debuted on the Oprah Winfrey Show and forums and web blogs across the net have seen positive fan reaction.

Eclipse is released July 09 2010 which is hugely late compared to just about everywhere else – in fact, only Germanys is later (15th July)!

What do you think to the new Eclipse trailer? Rock your world or kick starting your gag reflex – either way, we want to know!

Marvel Updates On Future Movies

Marvel has given a tantalising insight into future comic book movie releases.

Among them is Edgar Wright's Ant-Man, which is centred around a super-hero who can shrink himself down to the size of an ant. Due to be released in the US in 2012, a biochemist uses his latest discovery to create a size-altering formula.

We must say we're not 100% convinced by this premise - a little too familiar (think Honey I Shrunk the Kids). Perhaps it's a little band-wagon due to the recent stream of comic book releases?

We'll have to wait and see.

Everything Elm Street

We all know that the Nightmare on Elm Street is coming to our screens soon (7 May 2010, UK) but what we really want to know is: will it be any good?!

It will be a 're-imagining' that is loosely based on the 1984 classic. So it won't be a carbon copy of the original which we're pleased to hear. It would have a lot to live up to in the 'scare' stakes. (Or maybe that was just our young impressionable minds at the time!).

After interviews with cast and crew it has been established that Freddy (Jackie Earle Haley, Rorschach in Watchmen) will have burn marks on his face that are more accurate to those of a real-life burn victim. There will also be parts of the film that show Freddy before he was burnt.

We think that this will be an interesting and different take on the original. But be prepared to be scared.

The Losers show why Chris Evans is Captain America

The Losers, release date 29th May 2010 (UK) is a cool comic book style movie, which will definitely benefit from the recent casting of Chris Evans as Captain America. The Losers will showcase Evans talents before we see him in the biggie!

The Losers is a tale of double cross and revenge, centred upon a team of black-ops soldiers who are sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The team - Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Shanghai), Jenson (Chris Evans, Captain America), Roque (Idris Elba, Thor)...and a couple of others...are presumed dead when they are joined by the mysterious Aisha (Zoe Saldana, Avatar). Working together they must remain undercover and wage a high-tech global war.

Chris Evans is the wise-cracking hacker type. Although a standard role within a gang of action hero's he takes the one liners to another level and manages to keep a tongue-in-cheek wink-wink attitude througout.

Keep an eye out for this one - don't let it go under your radar!

The Last Airbender, Confirmed For 3D

The Last Airbender is coming to UK screens in August 2010. And now it's been confirmed to be in 3D glory.

Based on the animated TV series on Nickolodeon, here's a brief synopsis of the movie: A world where the elements (Water, Earth, Fire and Air) can be controlled only by The Avatar, he is the master of all four elements. One day The Avatar vanishes and a war rages. The only hope to stop the war is a young boy named Aang (Noah Ringer)... the last airbender.

According to Digital Spy Last Airbender producer, Frank Marshall, recently wrote on his Twitter Account about using the latest 3D technology "Looking at 3D test... Looking at 3D for various projects, I think it's here to stay, but not right for all movies... So far, feels like it's better to shoot in 3D rather than convert."

Expect big effects and masses of CGI. And now all in 3D!

R Patz Torn Between Music And Acting

As if R Patz isn't satisifed enough with being Britain's no. 1 heart throb, actor, model, producer and having the beautiful and talented Kristin Stewart by his side, he still feels there's something missing!

The 23 year old is a keen musician and plans to release an album in the future. He states "I haven't been able to do my music for ages. I can't concentrate on two things at once. I don't even listen to music when I'm working on a movie".

Being amongst R Patz biggest fans, we know he plays guitar and piano, so we're desperate to know if he'll play an instrument in his own music. He also sang on two of the Twilight tracks 'Never Think' and 'Let Me Sign'. We can't wait to hear what he's going to release. If we hear anything more we'll let you know!

Eyjafjallajokull Ruins Iron Man 2 UK Premiere Fun

Eyjafjallajokull has a lot to answer for.

Not only is it threatening the holiday plans of a certain GG (if that wasn’t enough, right?) and leaving hundreds of thousands of people stranded across the world – it’s now gone and spoilt the UK premiere for Iron Man 2! Unacceptable!

The film has been switched from its original London world premiere to Los Angeles amongst fears over safe and reliable air travel.

Stars in the film, including Robert Downey Jr, Mickey Rourke, Gwyneth Paltrow and Scarlett Johansson had all been scheduled to attend the event.

It’s thought that a special screening will still take place in London on the 26 April.

And we were so looking forward to a bit of Downey Jr spotting.

Reasons to be fearful, 1,2, V!

There's always going to be an element of scepticism when hearing that a 1980's classic has been re-made. However the new series of V (Tuesday 10pm on Scyfy) certainly does not dissappoint.

If you haven't heard anything about the show yet, here's a quick plot synopsis to get you up to speed:

The V's (Visitors) have just arrived on planet Earth. They have seemingly good intentions and are apparently willing to live in peace and harmony with the human race. However, as the show progresses it is revealed that the V's have in fact been living among society for many years and their intentions aren't as good as at first thought.

Here's a small taster of the characters and the aspects that we like about the show so far:
Characters:

Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell, Lost) is a gritty, hard nosed agent who knows what she wants. She's immediately suspicous about the V's real intentions and she's not afraid to investigate. We have a bit of a girl crush on Mitchell - love her.

Anna (Morena Baccarin). So far the main face of the V's. She's beautiful and manipulative. She knows how to get what she wants. She understands the human culture and uses it fully to her advantage by using her female powers of persuasion. She scares the hell out of us with those eyes.

Chad Decker (Scott Wolf, Party of Five). He's a moral journalist (they exist folks, come on!) who wants to broadcast a two-sided debate about the V's, to the evident frustration of the V's. We're suspecing he may get in trouble with the V's in due course.

Ryan Nichols (Morris Chestnut). He's an undercover V who has been on earth for many years. It seems that he is one of the "Good Guys" and he is trying to stop the V's (although we're not sure what the V's are up to yet!).

Father Jack Landry (Joel Gretsch). An unsuspecting priest who has been thrown into knowing a lot more than he wanted to about the Visitors. He may well team up with Erica to uncover more about the V's real intentions. But he may need to grow some bigger balls first - we're just saying.

Tyler Evans (Logan Huffman). Son of Erica with an unhealthy obsession with the V's. He's joined up to be an advocate of the Visitors and is drawn in and fascinated by their looks and attitude. He can't understand why his mum is telling him to stay away from them.

Top Five best aspects:

1. The CGI. We weren't expecting much seeing as V has been quite under publicised - we asssumed that maybe it was a low budget sci-fi show. But oh no, those Americans would never do that to us. Especially on ScyFy HD; from the spaceships to the gory revelations under the V's skin, the special effects are awe-some.

2. The banter, "who's a V?". When watching the show, it became apparent that we are not going to know who is and who isn't a V for some time. And that's the fun! Guessing who might be a V. They look the same, sound the same. The only way to tell as far as we know is by cutting the skin to see if there is lizard skin lurking beneath the surface.

3. The fast moving pace. Considering we've only seen two episodes so far, quite a lot has been revealed. Lots of questions have been raised and we're looking forward to finding out the answers.

4. The relationships. There are already some interesting relationships being formed. Between Anna and Chad in particular. Will they be arch enemies or lovers? We're not so keen on the teen romance though.

5. The intrigue. Why are the V's here? What do they want? As the show progresses we're sure we'll understand more about what the V's are after, but for now we're loving the intrigue.

Matt Smith To Star In The Sarah Jane Adventures

The BBC has announced plans for 11th Doctor Matt Smith to star in an upcoming episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures.

In the two-part story, penned by former Doctor Who boss Russell T. Davies, the Doctor will be reunited with Sarah Jane (Elisabeth Sladen) and fellow former companion Jo Grant (Katy Manning).

"It's a fantastic script and I can't wait to work with another Doctor and hope Matt has fun with us," said Sladen. "I've known Katy for ages and I am delighted to be working with her. I last met her in LA but this time we will be in Cardiff. LA was good but Cardiff is better."

Manning, who appeared alongside Third Doctor Jon Pertwee from 1971 to 1973, added: "Playing Jo Grant again is something I never really considered. I was gobsmacked when they told me and I am over the moon. What an incredible little treat."

Nikki Wilson, co-executive producer said: "Viewers are in for a real treat, with an action-packed story, full of Russell's usual wit and warmth, which takes the gang inside a secret base beneath Snowdon and introduces brand new vulture aliens, the mysterious Shansheeth. All this, plus a trip to an alien planet - a first for The Sarah Jane Adventures."

Lost Spoilers: Jack Confronts Flocke

It might still be frustrating the bejaysus out of us, but with only four new episodes left until the Lost finale double-bill, we're getting excited about where this season is headed.

Next Friday's episode, The Last Recruit, sees Jack face-off against Flocke in a confrontation we've been waiting for for weeks.

And that's not the only important conversation on the cards as alliances will be forged and broken as the camps merge - Sawyer is set to reveal his plan and Jack will confront his crazy half-sister Claire.

Check out this sneak peek.

Heroes Star Ali Larter Hopes Show Can "Wrap Up Storylines For Fans"

It’s been a question for quite some time now – and they’re taking their sweet time in answering it - but we want to know what CBS plan on doing with Heroes. To renew or not to renew?
The closest we can get to an answer is via The Hollywood Reporter (THR) and through sound-bites from the show's cast.

THR spoke to industry insiders and worked out that Heroes had a 60% chance of being renewed by CBS. Interestingly, according to THR, if the show is renewed, it may only be for a limited amount of episodes in order to tie up loose ends.

“The expensive NBC series has always performed well overseas, but the network needs “Heroes” to pull decent numbers in its own backyard too. This season, “Heroes” continued its decline and is now at a level — around a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating — that would warrant cancellation under most circumstances. The deciding factor here is NBC’s internal balance sheet for the production. Don’t be surprised if NBC announces a 12-hour “final chapter” for next fall.” THR

Here at Geeky Girl HQ, we haven’t been exactly blown away by the last few seasons of Heroes but we would like to see fitting endings for the well written and conceived characters and story arcs. Ali Larter, who plays Tracey Strauss on the series, echoes our sentiments.

Promoting her latest film, Resident Evil: Afterlife, at WonderCon Ali commented, “I believe we are coming back for Heroes next season. I think so. I’m not sure. It’s been such a thrill being on that show. I hope we have the chance to wrap up these storylines for all the fans”.

“Kick-Ass? Ass Kicked More Like”

We hate to see a great film flounder, but alas, it seems that Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass is not enjoying such a superhero welcome across the pond.

Kick-Ass had been predicted by most Hollywood guru types to earn a modest $30 million (and clear its production costs) in its opening US weekend, but it failed to hit even the $20 million mark.

We've not seen the US marketing campaign, but we reckon the complexities of marketing a film about child/teen super-heroes, which children and teenagers can’t actually see probably hasn’t helped, despite the online excitement.

Kick-Ass received an R rating in the US, where as the UK (rather generously) gave it a 15 certificate.

We hope Kick-Ass gets the viewing figures it deserves. 300, which also enjoyed massive online buzz and fan-boy interest made $210 million and we’d say Kick-Ass was better and more enjoyable than that!

Twilight On List Of "Challenged" Books

We're big (BIG) fans of Stephenie Meyer's best-selling Twilight series, so it was a surprise to hear that the books are among the top five books most complained about.

Though seeing as the news has come from the American Library Association, perhaps we shouldn't be so shocked.

The Twilight series ranks fifth on the annual report of "challenged books" released by the organisation, who think the complaints reflect general unease about supernatural stories among parents and teachers particularly.

The novels were challenged due to it being “sexually explicit, unsuited to age group, and [having] offensive language.”

"Vampire novels have been a target for years and the Twilight books are so immensely popular that a lot of the concerns people have had about vampires are focused on her books," says Barbara Jones, director of the association's Office for Intellectual Freedom.

"It is the books which are read frequently which are frequently challenged – with all the hype around Twilight and the movies and the celebrities I was actually surprised Meyer's books weren't higher," added Angela Maycock at the ALA's office for intellectual freedom.

Topping the 2009 chart was Lauren Myracle's IM series, novels told through instant messages that have been criticised for nudity, language and drug references. Last year's most complained about book, And Tango Makes Three, by Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson, was second this year, cited again for its story about two male penguins adopting a baby. Third was Stephen Chbosky's The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which was complained about for drugs, suicide, homosexuality and being anti-family.

Well, that gives us a few books to add to the Geeky Girl reading list.

Also cited were classics such as JD Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird, and Alice Walker's The Color Purple.

Our fave True Blood Poster Season 3

We love love love True Blood and can't wait for season 3! Our personal fave poster is 'Nothing like a good cup of Joe'. If only we had the Deep South drawl to carry off such a phrase!

Atwell Joins Captain America Cast

The Duchess actress Hayley Atwell has won the female lead in upcoming superhero spectacular, The First Avenger: Captain America.

Hayley reportedly beat competition from fellow Brits Blunt, Keira Knightley and Alice Eve to play Peggy Carter in the comic book movie.

The actress will star opposite Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, while Gossip Girl actor Sebastian Stan will play sidekick James "Bucky" Barnes.

In comic lore, Peggy Carter not only dated Captain America but was an agent helping the French Resistance. She later became the aunt of Sharon Carter, Captain America's love in modern times.

The First Avenger: Captain America is due out in cinemas in July 2011.

Deathly Hallows Will Be “Bloody” And “Gory”

As the Harry Potter films advance to their final conclusion, we can expect the action and the plot to get steadily darker in their content.

Speaking to the SnitchSeeker, the Harry Potter news site, Matthew Lewis who plays Neville Longbottom revealed the Deathly Hallows are unlike any other previous film, “The previous ones have had a formula: You go to school, bad things happen and he [Harry] sorts it out and jobs a good en'... But in this year it’s all completely different. They're [the trio] not in the school for a start and, literally, it's such an epic battle. It’s like something from the Lord of the Rings.”

Matthew adds, “And David [Yates, director] as well and Steve Kloves [screenwriter] haven’t shied away from the more severe stuff in it that was in the book. It’s bloody and it’s gory and it’s very real.”

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I will be released in November and Part II is due to be released in July 2011. See a trailer here!

Harry Potter Geeks can read the full extract of the interview at SnitchSeeker.

Get Ready, Sci-Fi-London Film Festival Announces Line Up

The annual Sci-Fi-London Film festival is just about to launch and this year’s line up is even bigger than before, with over 40 features, 25 shorts, special events and workshops.

The festival opens on Wednesday 28th April with sci-fi-horror film, Splice (pictured left), written and directed by Vincenzo Natali (Cube, Cypher).

Sci-Fi-London is the UK’s leading genre event and is internationally recognised as a launch pad for genre movies.

The festival is in its 9th year and this year takes place from Wed 28th April – Monday 3rd May 2010 at The Apollo Piccadilly Circus Cinema.

So far, our favourite movie premise comes from India, with Love Story 2050. The movie involves time travel, robots, reincarnation and you guessed it, an all singing and dancing movie cast. Brilliant! Take a peek-a-boo here:

Joss Whedon To Write AND Direct The Avengers film? Shut. Up.

We bring you joyous geeky news this morning. Variety has reported that not only will Joss Whedon be directing the new The Avengers film; he’ll also be rewriting Zak Penn’s original screen play!

Already a hugely respected writer (BtVS, Angel, DollHouseToy Story), Joss Whedon has recently spent time writing for various comic books, including Marvel’s X-Men and the continuing Buffy graphic novels. He has also just finished the script for horror flick, Cabin in the Woods.

While Serenity is the only film Whedon has directed, we think directing all those Buffy, Angel and Firefly episodes (the list just goes on and on people) should hold him in good stead.

Filming on The Avengers gets under way in early 2011 and already signed up are Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury). It’s rumoured that Edward Norton could reprise his Hulk role. The planned release date is May 2012.

This just sounds epic; an amazing library of possible story arcs, acting heavyweights in Downey and Jackson with Joss Whedon in charge of it all. It’s like our very own geeky nirvana.

New True Blood Poster Alert!

True Blood bosses are continuing their cheeky, and somewhat mysterious marketing campaign for the third season of the vampire show.

We think the latest poster to be released might be our fave so far.

Garcia Teases Lost "Turning Point"

Lost actor Jorge Garcia has hinted that the next episode of Lost, titled Everybody Loves Hugo, marks a turning point for the show.

"There's definitely a turning point about to happen," he told the Los Angeles Times.

"Right around the middle of the season, all those deja vu moments in the sideways timeline, you'll see stuff come to a head and the whole season turns a corner. And stuff really gets interesting."

The episode centers on Hurley but Garcia hinted that his character may have problems ahead.

"This new episode shows that everything seems great for Hurley," he said. "But maybe not everything's great."

Meanwhile, Henry Ian Cusick has confirmed that his character Desmond will be seen again before the show ends - both on and off the island.

"I certainly turn up again," he confirmed to The ODI. "We have five or six episodes and I turn up again both on the island and in the flash-sideways.

"It's spotted all over the place - there's not gonna be another Happily Ever After. Obviously, that was my centric episode and there are other characters that will step up and you'll see what they have to do to get where we have to get to."

He added: "It's not gonna be about one character, but all of us."

BBC Confirm Survivors Axe

Ironically (in an Alanis Morissette-type way), post-apocalyptic drama Survivors, which starred Julie Graham, Paterson Joseph and Max 'PC World' Beesley, has been axed after two series.

The sci fi show, a remake of the cult 70s series of the same name, was given a roasting by critics in its second six-part run despite a well-received first outing in 2008.

A spokeswoman said: "The BBC is committed to making a broad range of varied and ambitious drama, but in order to achieve this we do have to move on from some pieces in order to allow new work to come through - after two series, Survivors will not be returning,"

Hostility at New Doctor! But Don’t Worry, We’ll Adjust Say Researchers

According to internal BBC memos, the British public do not like change, especially when it comes to the good Doctor! But it’s okay Matt, take a deep breath, let it out and relax – you're not the first Doctor to go through this initial period of unrest.

Today the Beeb is publishing its extensive DW archives. The archives feature audience reactions to each new Doctor and they’re not exactly favourable!

When the first Doctor, William Hartnell, regenerated way back in ’66, audience opinion was not kind to his successor, Patrick Troughton. “Once a brilliant but eccentric scientist, he now comes over as a half-witted clown,” complained one viewer to the BBC’s Audience Research Department.

Another viewer grumbled: “I’m not sure that I really like his portrayal – I feel the part is exaggerated – whimsical even – I keep expecting him to take a great watch out of his pocket and mutter about being late like Alice’s White Rabbit.”

Jon Pertwee, Troughton’s predecessor, had a slightly better response, but a research report following his first appearance stated: “Reaction to this first episode of the new Dr Who series can hardly be described as enthusiastic.”

Even the most popular Doctor Who incarnation, Tom Baker, received a lukewarm  reception, with one viewer protesting, “General opinion was that the new Dr Who is a looney – he is an eccentric always, but the way it was presented made him stupid.”

Others hoped Pertwee would (somehow!) return: “My two boys aged four and six were distressed about the change of Dr Who. They were very excited by the episode, but hope the Doctor will change back again next week.”

Here at Geeky Girl HQ, we’ve not come across much negative press or fan blogging for the new Doctor or the revamped format and production team. But there has been criticism for Amy Pond’s (played by Karen Gillan) wardrobe!

One viewer complained: “"They've completely demeaned Doctor Who by replacing good episode stories with slutty girls."

But Karen Gillan defended the decision to dress in a mini skirt, saying: 'I tried on different things and when it came to the short skirts, I just thought it was right. I mean, look down most high streets and girls Amy's age wear that. It's not that weird."

Darn tooting!

5 Reasons To Go See Kick-Ass

(Spoiler FREE! We cross our geeky hearts)

Kick-Ass has received rave reviews (we can’t be arsed to pass more than a passing comment on the outraged cries of middle Britain/America/Oldies) and we’re not going to break that mould.

To very briefly summarise the plot; Dave Lizewski is an ordinary kid, nothing special. He wonders why in the years that Superhero movies have been made no-one has attempted to become one. So one day he decides that he's going to do just that - without any training or skills to mention.

Now here are five awesome reasons why Kick-Ass should coax you in to parting with your cash. We urge you - catch this on the big screen.

Chloe Moretz - aka HIT GIRL
Dave Lizewski: "How will I reach you?"
Hit-Girl: "Just contact the mayor's office; he has a special signal he shines in the sky! It’s in the shape of a giant cock."

This is just one of the many gems (and expletives) that passes the lips of young Chloe Moretz. And don’t pay any attention to the morally out-raged; we heard the C word once with a few f-words peppering the sides - so pretty much the same as your average kid on the street.

We can’t express how impressive Chloe is in this role. This isn’t an easy character to play; the demands of an extremely athletic part combined with a very different and adult role can’t have been a little daunting. She’s a vicious, violent, ass-kicking mother rocker one moment and the next, heart wrenchingly vulnerable and fragile. The young actress completely steals the show – hers is a star in full ascent.

Hit Girl is our heroine of the moment. When we grow young we’d like to morph into this bad-ass, purple wigged pup.

Nicolas Cage aka BIG DADDY
“Tool up honey bunny. It’s time to get the bad guys!”

Well we weren’t exactly surprised when we heard the Cage Face was starring in this because he’s a super comic geek (and when we say super, we mean super duper) but we were curious to see how his character would be played out. Readers, he’s a-maz-ing.

Cage makes Big Daddy immensely likable. We’re not sure whose idea it was, but the actor was more than channeling a bit of the old Batman charisma – the Adam West version, definitely not Clooney’s.

Tough, brave and with some excellent one liners, Cage really elevates Big Daddy – you believe he really is more than the ordinary – he’s got a little bit of the “extraordinary” that David Lizewski so desperately craves.

The Script
Damon Macready: "So... Have you thought a little more about what you might want for your birthday?"
Mindy Macready: "Can I get a puppy?"
Damon Macready: "You wanna get a dog?"
Mindy Macready: Yeah, a cuddly fluffy one, and a Bratz movie-star make over Sasha!... I'm just fucking with you Daddy... I'd love a bench made model 42 butterfly knife!"
Damon Macready: "Oh, child... You always knock me for a loop!"

This is a superhero movie, but it’s also something more. It’s a superhero film without any of the super stuff. In essence, they’re an assembled gaggle of humans, ranging from the extremely fit to the extremely un-coordinated. Some want to make a difference, some want to avenge past crimes and some are just plain crazy.

The dialogue is great. It’s knowing, it’s hip without being too try hard and it’s funny. It’s so funny that we just know we’re not doing it enough justice so we’ll repeat: It’s FUNNY! One of the guys we went with didn’t stop gwuffling throughout the entire film. We particularly enjoyed the interplay between Dave (Kick-Ass) and his buddies.

No doubt about it, Mark Millar (who wrote the comic book) and Jane Goldman are on cracking form with this fine script. And whilst the quips and jokes are laid on thick, they don’t lose sight of the goal or get too blasĂ© – which would have made the movie a lot less likable and redundantly violent – this is still essentially a film about humans and how complex their lives can be.

The Action
“Fuck this shit! I’m getting the bazooka!”

Do you like your violence with a slice of gore and a liberal smattering of blood? Broken bones and ravaged wounds? We think Kick-Ass should keep you and your homicidal self happily entertained throughout. As the movie progresses, so does the scope and complexity of the fight scenes – they’re beautifully shot and stylish in the extreme – we’d expect no less from Vaughan.

Major kudos again must go to Miss Moretz. That girl is amazing. Wires shmires! Have you tried running up a wall and doing a back flip off it? Erm... well neither have we, but we hear it’s not for the faint hearted and she pulls such feats off with aplomb.

Nicolas Cage is no slouch either, no siree! Moving with stealthy speed, he is a gun tooting bad-ass. Cage more than convinces (and thrills) as Big Daddy. Bless him; Dave as Kick-Ass tries his absolute best too.

The In Jokes
“With no power comes no responsibility."

Don’t you just love it when you’re sat in the audience and you pick up on a homage? Or you spot an in-joke or notice a gag in the mise en scĂšne (Ooo, get us)? You feel smug, you feel in the know. And Kick-Ass pushes all those buttons.

Some of the fight scenes are reminiscent of Kill Bill – especially Moretz in the whole school girl get up. Cage is pure Adam West. We also love the comic book fan-boy references – it almost makes us wish we were fully fledged comic geeks so we could wring even more glee from the gags then we already have.

In Conclusion

An amazing cast, great supporting cast and fantastic production and direction, Kick-Ass is sharp, witty and genuinely touching. It KICKED ASS! Sorry, we couldn’t resist.

Kaiser Chief In Potter Cameo?

The Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson has reportedly landed a cameo role in the final Harry Potter film, The Deathly Hallows (Part 2).

The Sun claims that Ricky, who's apparently a Potter fanatic, was snapped up to do a scene with stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint.

A source told the newspaper: "Ricky's a huge Potter fan and has been skipping around on set.

"He is kept in full make-up away from other extras to try to keep his identity secret, but Daniel and Rupert know who he is. They all get on well.

Ricky has no lines, but appears at the front of a crowd fleeing Lord Voldemort's Snatchers.

Doctor Who Spoilers - The Beast Below

Having spent our lunch hour today transfixed by Matt Smith's second Doctor Who episode, The Beast Below, we thought it only right to share a sneak peek of what's in store for Amy Pond's first proper adventure with the Time Lord.

Penned by show boss (and genius) Steven Moffat, the episode sees the Doctor and Amy travel far into the future to a time when the Earth has been destroyed and England's inhabitants live aboard the Starship UK.

But it's not all fun, games and wonderment in space (though Amy does a lot of the wide-eyed staring again). There are secrets in the bowles of the starship, and the Doctor is determined to discover the truth.

Below are a few spoiler pics for you to peruse.

Alan Ball On New True Blood Character, Alcide Heureaux: "..Crazy Peak Physical Condition"

Do you remember way back when we posted that True Blood had cast Alcide Heureaux’s character to Joe Manganiello (One Tree Hill)? Well now he’s on set and in the thick of it! We've found an exclusive, first-look photo of Alcide and Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) in action.

Alcide will make his first appearance in True Blood’s third season and executive show producer Alan Ball says there will be fireworks! “There is definitely some [sexual] energy between the two of them. It’s not like either one of them is looking for romance, but they’re thrown into several intense situations [and] it’s hard not to bond on a deeper level,” mused Alan to EW’s Ausiello.

Alan continued: “The first shirtless scene [Joe] had I was like, 'Who has those abs?'. He’s in crazy peak physical condition. He’s eating nothing but pure protein. And of course, this being True Blood, he’s already shot his first naked scene. Hello, werewolves when they shift — no clothes!”

Oh, silly us! To think we thought it was just about gratuitous nudity – not that we’re complaining mind.

We’re not sure if we can take all this True Blood goodness. First it was Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd, then Mechad Brooks and now Joe Manganiello. It’s enough to make a girl feel quite over come.

Andrew Lincoln Signs Up For Zombie Series

Lincoln will play Rick Grimes, a small town police officer who must lead a group of survivors to safety in a world overrun with shambling, brain-munching zombies. Jon Bernthal will co-star as his fellow officer, Shane.

Kirkman serves as an executive producer on the project, which will be written, directed and produced by three-time Oscar nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile).

"Andrew Lincoln, wow - what an amazing find this guy is. Writing Rick Grimes month after month in the comic series, I had no idea he was an actual living breathing human being and yet here he is. I couldn't be more thrilled with how this show is coming together," said the series creator.

"Andrew is an incredibly gifted actor. He has the presence and attitude to bring this character and story to life. We are thrilled that he is joining the cast," added Joel Stillerman, SVP of original programming, production and digital content at AMC.

The Walking Dead tells the story of the months and years that follow a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by cop Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe haven. The comic goes on to explore the challenges of life in a world overrun by zombies who take a toll on the survivors, and sometimes the interpersonal conflicts present a greater danger to their continuing survival than the zombies that roam the country. Over time, the characters are changed by the constant exposure to death and some grow willing to do anything to survive.

Foxy Megan For Red Sonja? (Breathe Boys, B-R-E-A-T-H-E!)

Okay fellas, we don’t want to over excite you this early in the day, but we hear the very definition of red-hot, Megan Fox, is the number one choice of actress to play the role of Red Sonja.

The film’s producer, Robert Rodriquez, is hoping that with Megan Fox as the lead, interest in his movie will soar. For those of you not acquainted with Red Sonja let us introduce you. Red Sonja is a fictional female barbarian, who wields a sword with deadly accuracy and um, wears a chainmail bikini. Geek-tastic fact: She first appeared in Conan the Barbarian #23 (Marvel Comics)

The Red Sonja remake has suffered repeated delays in starting production; from financial issues to actresses departing (originally Rodriquez’s former fiancĂ©e Rose McGowan was set to play Sonja, but she opted for Conan instead).

The original Red Sonja (1985) starred Brigitte Nielsen and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

We’ll make a prediction - we’re very good at them. If Megan Fox decides to jump on board the Red Sonja production, Rodriquez can rest assured the film will make millions. No red blooded male is likely to miss the chance of sitting in the dark with a chainmail bejewelled Fox, brandishing a massive sword.
